N300 is the basic 2.4GHz option. AC1200 adds dual-band extension, an Ethernet port and access-point mode. AX1500 brings dual-band Wi-Fi 6, a gigabit Ethernet port and Xiaomi Mesh or EasyMesh support with compatible equipment. Product names describe different capabilities; they are not interchangeable speed upgrades.
Install the extender between the router and the target area, where its signal indicator or app still shows a useful upstream link. Matching the router’s bands matters, and an older client remains limited by its own radio. When several distant rooms need service or users move frequently between nodes, a coordinated mesh system may be a cleaner design than adding multiple independent extenders.
